O.C. Tanner is the world's leading provider of employee recognition solutions, including service and performance awards and custom jewelry. They've been in business for 77 years now and have over 1600 employees in sales offices throughout the U.S. and around the world.

"When it comes to engraving software," Mr. Warren says, "there's nothing out there that can compete with Type3, as far as speed, accuracy and functionality.

For nearly four years they have relied on Type3 Artistic CAD/CAM Software in the ring manufacturing process and the die-cutting process, where they produce approximately 50 dies per week.

Prior to purchasing Type3, O.C. Tanner was using a couple of standard CAD programs. Patrik Warren, a Programmer at O.C. Tanner, explains that the company decided to purchase Type3 because of the power and the scope of it.

"Type3 is specifically designed for our industry - the engraving business. It allowed us to do surface-to-surface projection and to create 3-dimensional engravings that were very time-consuming with our other software. It made it so much easier design-wise with fonts, manipulating logos, mapping text to a curve and modifying designs. And things we used to rely on hand-sculptors to create, such as detailed designs out of steel, we can now accomplish with Type3."

Mr. Warren explains that a die with a detailed face on it can now be accurately produced with Type3 in only 7 hours (4 hours for the design and toolpath creation plus 3 hours on the mill). He estimates that, "With the software we used to use, that same die could have taken 2 weeks to make, and it still would not have been anywhere near the quality that I have with Type3."
