Alan Elvydge explains “with so many
variants
in the machining process
depending upon material, cut depth,
accuracy of detail etc. excellent
communication is required with
the machine operator". |
With 30 years experience working with some of the UK’s best-known names nationally and internationally, Sygnet Signs Ltd has proven itself to be a complete sign maker. The 20-people staff company’s expertise has been gained in all aspects of sign making with specialist in-house skills including metal letter fabrication, CNC machining, product assembly and site installation. The continuing policy of investment in state-of-the-art manufacturing machinery means that they are at the forefront in their specialised areas. |
"Designers & machines need to work fast, very fast, explains Mick Iley Chairman of
the
company, we have been looking at
several
options on the market, and Type3
shown
us the most satisfactory results”. |

Continuous improvement has always been a policy at Sygnet and investing in this new technology gave them a broader range of in-house manufacturing techniques, optimised machining capabilities and opened up new markets. |
Type3, A complete package: |
Type3 is a complete design for manufacture package logically broken down into three core modules for each stage of a 3D product’s creation: TypeEdit, TypeArt and CAM. From using the software it was clear how it could be applied to different processes in various industries, and which of those could be exploited most efficiently in the sign trade, says Alan, the designer.
|
Type3 advantages: |
With ever increasing competitiveness within the industry and the customers desire for a high quality product at a low cost, Sygnet Signs Ltd is now producing items, using this software, that previously would have been manufactured externally or simply weren’t financially viable, while cutting lead times, increasing in-house expertise and most importantly giving their customers a wider product range at a lower cost.
|
While already using software specifically designed for sign creation, and other technical 2D package, "TypeEdit offered us excellent vectorization and bitmap editing tools thus allowing us the ability to create outlined artwork from images and photos that could then be transferred into CNC tooling files” explains Alan. Type3 takes advantage of the artistic design sense rather than critical job production, yet still maintains the ability to achieve strict tolerances when and where necessary. This is a piece of software where knowledge and ability comes with practice. “At Sygnet we have used this facility to produce moulds to tolerance".
|
The introduction of Type3 has assisted Sygnet Signs Ltd in making the required technological advancements, as well as providing them with a broader scope for future improvements.
