Greenwood Plastics/Trigard Engraved Bronze is a growing company with its sight set high.They use Type3 Artistic CAD/CAM Software to produce bronze markers and signage for the funeral/ memorialization industry, at a rate of about 45 plates per month. After a couple of years devoted principally to research & development, the company has shown steady growth in the six months since its business has gone "live". They have had sales increases of 15% each month, and hope to eventually reach a 30% market share, making them the national leader in the funeral industry.

Type3 has been a huge factor in the rapid growth of Greenwood Plastics/Trigard Bronze. According to Jim Walthall, the company's Co-owner and Director of Engineering, the company started out just wanting to do text, but soon discovered that there wasn't a market for text-only plates in the funeral industry. So they couldn't be competitive.

"People were absolutely blown away by the results," asserts Mr. Walthall. "It's that kind of detail that puts us head and shoulders above everybody else.

Type3 helped them make their mark in the industry by giving them the ability to personalize plates by converting bitmaps into low-relief 3-dimensional images. Says Mr. Walthall, "If you can capture it on a high-quality picture, we can cut it." He underlines the importance of Type3 in his business: "Type3 has given us the ability to take a product or a picture and create a one-off replication of it without extensive programming and a lot of time involved in getting the picture ready to cut."

"Without Type3 we wouldn't have that ability, and this whole business wouldn't be a reality because it just wouldn't be cost-effective".

Mr. Walthall looked at several software packages before choosing Type3. He says, "The things that I look for in software are its driveability and the efficiency of its toolpath creation. I needed a software that my employees could learn quickly. The big thing in my business is to go from art to part as quickly as possible. I evaluated other engraving software programs, and I feel like Type3 has given me the shortest span from art to part. So if I hadn't chosen Type3 I don't think my customer base would be where it is now; it might even be non-existent." He adds that the quality of support was another key factor in his decision to go with Type3. He says, "The support I've gotten from Vision Numeric has been excellent. Response time has always been wonderful, and questions have always gotten answered".

Type3's superior quality and accuracy has enabled Greenwood Plastic/Trigard Engraved Bronze to create 3-D reliefs in which they have faithfully reproduced subtleties such as light beams and reflections from photographs and architect's renderings.

Mr. Walthall has also been impressed with Type3's functionality and efficiency: "I think Type3 has one of the strongest vectorization functions that I've seen," he says. "Converting from raster to vector has always been very machinist's dream, and Type3 does that very, very efficiently. Comparing the bitmap to point cloud or surface creation I just felt like the results I got with Type3 were superior to the competition. I got greater detail, final clean-up and manipulation were easier".

Greenwood Plastics/Trigard Engraved Bronze is proud to be an innovator in the memorialization industry, and they are equally excited about the growth they have made in such a short time. They are gradually getting licensed by all of the major universities in the country to do their logos, mascot pictures, etc. so that they can create bronze memorial plates for former alumni. When asked about the secret to their success, Mr. Walthall asserts, "I think that one of our strongest suits in our industry is our marketability. We are able to say yes to things that no one else can say yes to. So our market share increases every time that we can say yes.
