1. I have installed TypeEdit on a new computer. How can I recover my machine configuration and my tools database from my previous installation?
The main configuration files of the software are placed in the sub-directory CONFIG of the directory where you installed your TypeEdit version.
You must find in this sub-directory the following files:

- Tooldatbase.DBT: Tools database
- MACHI.INI: list of the machines installed
- MAC#XX.MAH: machine(s) installed (post-processor)

You should have as many MAH files as number of machines installed in TypeEdit.
Remark: a .MAH file is the dedicated post-processor file for your machine and not the one delivered as a standard with the software. It may have been especially customized for your own use. So it is a “precious’ file we recommend you to save it carefully!

To recover your machining configuration, you just have to copy these files in the sub-directory CONFIG from your old computer to the new one. You will then recover your tool database as well as all the machines you had in your previous version, in their original configuration. Please note that during the installation process, the recovering of your tool database and machine configuration is automatically done.

2. Some of my toolbars have just disappeared! How can I get these functions back?
Indeed, it may happen that some of the toolbars are not displayed any more, for any reason.
Then you have two solutions:

- Press F10, select the tab “Display” and click the button “Restore Default Config”. Then you will recover all the toolbars of the software that will be automatically placed in their default position (upper left corner of the working area).
- Press F10, select the tab “Display” and click the button “Restore user’s config” Then you will recover all the toolbars of the software that will be automatically placed in the position you must have saved previously. It means that once you have created your own configuration (positions for each toolbars to be displayed), you can click on the button “Save user configuration”. This configuration will be automatically recovered at any time when clicking on the button “Restore user’s config"

3. Can I drive a «EGX-600» machine with TypeEdit?
TypeEdit is delivered with more than 400 standard post-processors that correspond to most of the CNC machines you can find on the market. Among these post-processors you will find one called “Roland EGX-600” that should correspond to the machine you would like to drive with TypeEdit. Moreover, if you can provide us some basic information on a special machine with some basic samples of NC programs that can be run on this machine, we can create a dedicated post-processor or customize an existing one that does not perfectly fit with your own requirements.

4. When I try to send an NC program to the machine, I cannot access the “File” option but only “Test”. So it is impossible to send any program to the machine itself!
The number of machines you can install in your version of TypeEdit is coded on your dongle. For security reasons, when installing more machines than the maximum allowed by your dongle codes, you cannot send any NC files to the machine anymore (you can only display the NC program generated on the screen, it means use the “Test” option).

You must uninstall as much machines as necessary to be able to send the NC files to the machine again and get the options “Port” and “File” back in the machining dialog box.

5. How can I type a text with a mirror effect?
The «Vertical mirror» function can be applied to vectors only, or text converted into curves. However, to type a mirrored text, you can set, in the green “Rapido”, a negative value (-100%) for the “Width” parameter. Since version 2005, a new icon of the Green Rapido allows you to automatically type a mirrored text.

6. When typing a text, it always appears as upper case letters. Why?
You probably clicked on the function “Upper case” in the yellow “Rapido”! Also make sure other functions automatically convert any character to “Lower case” letter or “Small Caps”.

7. When typing a text, all the characters are compressed. Why?
Indeed, it may happen if you have just used the “Text on a curve” function. In that case, the text is automatically compressed to perfectly fit with the length of the curve it is attached to and the parameter “Maximum length” in the blue “Rapido” is automatically adjusted to the length of this curve.

So, when using again the function “Free text”, this parameter “Maximum length’ is still at this same previous value and then any text you can type can be compressed.

To come back to a standard way to type a text, just set the value zero for this parameter “Maximum length” in the blue “Rapido”.

8. How can I get more single line fonts?
The eight fonts delivered with the software have been created with our function “Font editor” from the text toolbar to answer to most of our customers’ demands. We have created our own format (VNF) as the True Type norm does not allow the creation of single-line fonts. To be able to create such fonts, your only option is to use our own format.

To get more single-line fonts, just create your fonts using the “Font editor” and you can use them as much as you want afterwards. Moreover, you will quickly realize that creating a font is sometimes a question of a few clicks…
